For the past 70 days I've had a countdown widget installed on the homescreen of my mobile phone.
It was a slow and frustrating sight, seeing the countdown go 70, 69, 68 ... 49, 48, 47 ... 22, 21, 20 ... 10 ! 9 ! 8 ! ... 3 ! 2 ! 1 ! 0 !!!!!
Not knowing anything about Osaka ... Google and Google maps played an instrumental, educational role.
What would we do without the internet these days ?
Here is a link to my custom Google map of the holiday planning:

Here is my itinerary, whether we stick to it or not, time will tell:
Mustard ................Chuo-ku South
Dark Pink .............Chuo-ku East
Light Pink .............Nishi-ku
Lavender ..............Tennoji-ku
Blue......................Kita-ku
There was a choice to pick them up from the airport or have them delivered to a hotel.
Although there is free WIFI in the hotel and other places, now we will have mobile data everywhere whilst we are out and about too.
We will still be online, reachable and be able share things 24/7 via Whatsapp messenger.
3980Yen / A$43, 1GB data, 3G speed, valid for 14 days.

To figure out how to get somewhere via foot, bus or train I will be relying on the mobile data to access the following sites:
1) www.rome2rio.com
2) www.hyperdia.com/en/
Green ...................Kyoto
As you can see, majority of our time will be spent in Minami (Chuo-ku South), with a full day trip to Kyoto, an evening in Umeda (Kita-ku) and a few visits down south to the (Tennoji-ku) area and west to the port area.
Here are some notes:
In japan you can't just buy pre-paid sim cards and insert them into your mobile phone like you do in Vietnam & Singapore.
Instead we had to pre-purchase these prepaid 1GB data only (no voice) sim cards online.
To have voice service in Japan, ID with a Japanese address is required to prevent criminal use of the mobile phone.
