Another type of cafe is the Fukurou (Owl) cafe.
In Osaka, there are two; Owl Family up in Umeda and the Lucky Owl Cafe in Dotonburi.
On the quieter end of Dotonburi, on the second floor above a little restaurant is where you will find this fun.
1 Chome-3-12 Dotonbori, Chuo Ward, Osaka
Upon entry we ordered our drinks and disinfected our hands with hand sanitiser.
We were given instructions about how we could and couldn't handle the birds and told the rules to ensure the well being of our new feathered friends.
Now for the real owls ... introducing Teana, whom is the worlds biggest species of Owl.
This wasn't suprising considering they should be asleep at this time that people were taking photos, touching and generally disturbing them.
Normally, you'd only see an Owl from a distance in a Zoo enclosure, but in this cafe being so close to them was awesome.
Female Harry potter owl !
The birds are tethered to their perches to ensure they don't fly away.
Not to personify this creature, but was she posing for me ?
1 month old baby.
There was another baby, the third one but it was fugly and un-photogenic.
I think it was a Snow owl.
All three babies were 1 month old.
Being in presence of these Owls was almost intimidating, especially the big one.
Paul had a go with Teana.
Trevor posed with her too.
You gotta wander what Teana was thinking ... maybe "Look at this human douchebag"
The 2nd baby which will eventually grow to look like the picture below.
Finally, the other Harry Potter owl woke up and became semi-social.
This one was male.
Eventually all of his feathers will be white.
During the evening, the Owls are fed pieces of meat & quails !
On the attackkkk !!! |
timing is everything |
Experiencing an Owl cafe was a fun thing to see, it did feel a bit wrong though ... poor things !
Pressed for time to make it to our next engagement we stopped into Lotteria at Dotonburi for an early dinner.
Fuck me ... 10 meat patties for Y2000/A$21.50 I think |
Meh !
Interesting ...
