Post #19 (13.05.14) >> Dinner @ Tokuya

When in Rome Japan, do as the Romans Japanese do.

Although controversial in Western society, it would be a great regret not to experience what Toyuka has to offer.

Tokuya is a restaurant located in Dotonburi that specialises in Whale meat.

Before mass condemnation from the likes of Greenpeace, PETA, The Greens etc;
Tokuya serves meat from Southern Ocean Minke whales.
The whale meat is sourced from the Japanese scientists after they finish conducting their research.

Guess this doesn't mean sh*t anymore since the courts have ruled that the research must stop.

Read more and check out the menu at http://www.tokuya.jp/e_index.html

The restaurant offers various discount coupons on their website.

In order to save 9% off the total bill I bought two whale related things at the Aquarium earlier this morning.
Unfortunately in the rush to get to the reservation on time, I forgot the two items back in the hotel.
I tried to explain this to the woman but had to resort to google translate in order for her to understand.
After reading what i was trying to say, she still honoured the discount ! Lovely !

We opted for the Gourmet Dinner @ 6300Yen/A$67 + drinks + tax

Rare Whale delicacy ... smoked kidney and sperm
The first appetiser came out.
It looked interesting and strange but it was even harder to stomach once we read what it was on the menu.

Whale tail fin
Similar to the taste and texture of Shark fin.

Smoked whale stomach bacon with kamaboko
Can't go wrong with Bacon !

Whale blubber sashimi
Yum !

Red meat Whale sashimi
Tasted much like raw beef sashimi but only better !

Simmered whale tongue cooked in Japanese broth and thick sauce
This was brilliant !!!

Red whale meat karaage

Stewed Whale tongue

Hari Hari Udon
These noodles were delicious too, except there was one type of whale meat that was really gamey.

Green tea icecream + wafer

Whale Chocolate !
This meal was good ! no regrets whatsoever ! Will remember forever !
