Post #25 (14.05.14) >> Venturing into Umeda to spend some time in The Lockup

After dinner in Dotonburi we got on a train and headed north.

Umeda, up in the Kita-ku is located around the large railway terminal complex that comprises Osaka and Umeda Station.

Around the terminal complex are towering office buildings & major department stores.
Underneath all this, is a whole other world, the expansive network of underground shopping malls.

This area is considered as the downtown area, the bustling central business district where the salarymen of Osaka spend many hours of their day.
By night it transforms into a something different, a place to eat, drink, play & use a love hotel ... if one so desires.

Not really satisfied by dinner earlier, the thought about having some sushi at Koyoshi Sushi crossed my mind.
This is a little Sushi restaurant made famous and popular by a visit from food and travel critic/guru Anthony Bourdain on his show (No Reservations).
I decided against it because we've been eating quite alot of sushi (Is there such thing ?),
I didn't want it to be like the chicken rice of Singapore, also time was not on our side -_-.

Instead we went straight to another themed bar.

http://www.lock-up.jp/

This izakaya (bar/restaurant) offers a novelty food and drink experience based on a prison themed setting.

Walking through a metal door, amongst pitch black darkness, we encountered some skulls, bats and that kind of thing to set the scary mood.
Upon reaching the actual entrance of the restaurant we were welcomed and greeted by our hostess scantily dressed in a female prison officer uniform.

Trevor was handcuffed and we were led to our cell.

Our state of mind changed from curious to FLABBERGASTERED as we saw the hottest female prison officer ever walk past (why couldnt we have her :(((((( !!! )

With our attention back to our own personal prison officer, her accent just didn't register as Japanese English, it was suprisingly good.
After asking her, she told us she had lived in Australia for three years.
No wonder !

The special hype of this place is the drinks menu; cocktails in test tubes, beaker jars, syringes and pills etc.

Like most other themed restaurants, the menu offerings were nothing to write home about *_-

We opted for good old french fries and much to the objection of Paul, we also had the Russian roulette Takoyaki balls.
This dish had six Takoyaki balls, one laced with hot Tabasco sauce.
We asked for extra hot !!!

There were 5 of us, and 6 Takoyaki balls, so the probability of choosing that particular ball was quite low.

Paul jinxed himself.

Birthday boy Trevor went first ! ... Safe !!!

Then I chose the central one ... Safe !!!

Willy grabbed the one closest to him ... Safe !!!

Paul started to worry as his chances of choosing the wrong one was getting higher and higher.

Thien ate the top one ... and pretended to have made the deadly choice but he was actually ... Safe !!!

Paulie was stuck in a 50/50 situation with one of the remaining balls being the one laced with hot Tabasco sauce.

GAHHHHHHHHHHHH !!! MindFUCK !!!

Which one !?!?@!?!?@?!?!@?!$?!@%?!

Here goes !!!

The split second before the wrath of Tabasco sauce explodes in his mouth.

So Kawaii !~*@^%$

Suddenly all of the lights turned off, scary sounds effects played and red sirens flashed...

All the girls in the adjoining cells were going off their heads, screaming in fright !!!
Trevor added to the atmosphere by beltching his best female screams aswell.
I sat huddled tight next to my buddies seeking reassuring comfort from whatever was to come.

A Japanese girl's voice narrated what must have been a ghost story or urban legend.
Amongst the talk was sinister laughter ... "HeH HEH hee hee ... Heh HEH hee hee" in a high pitched slow tone *creepy*

Screams from the adjoining cells became louder and more serious as the ghosts started to appear.

Suspense built up rapidly as we knew something was going to happen to us sooner rather than later.

Sure enough within seconds, a female ghost emerged at our cell bars, then it disappeared and reappeared inside our cell!

I sunk into my seat.

If the ghost had made a sudden change of pace from its slow demeanor and actually lunged at me ... I would have pissed my pants :X

The ghosts (accentuated by the UV light) continued to move around scaring the other patrons in their cells.

GgR .. wrong focus

Chartreuse pill
Quite a fun place for the novelty drink factor, full of sugar, food colouring and some alcohol.
A great photo opportunity if your camera is up to the task of tackling low light conditions.

Not sure if this was fresh seafood or day old seafood haha
Following our stroll, we caught the train back to Shinsaibashi station and walked home back to the hotel.

Pretty hotel lobby desk decoration
Yummy late night snacks
